Sandy,
Thank you so much for sharing these amazing recordings. I've been listening to them for a while now - since you first shared them. My response and the respponse I've heard from other musicians is simple astonishment.
Varese seems so relaxed and understanding of the sounds the jazz musicians are making from their unique vocabulary. He feels like an explorer in the sound universe who understands what he finds, it's relationship to natural non-tonal composition and sound that he is not creating it himself - simply encouraging and helping isolate it - hear it - from within the heart of the song form.
To me these are jewels of conversation among the artists. And they're very early in the so-called history of free music.
