Hello everyone:
I just received my copy of the Lydain Chromatic Concept book. I'm happy to know that there is a forum to help me understand and apply the Concept in my playing.
Are there any pointers that you can suggest a newbie to do to help him along the way.
Thanks
John

What instrument do you play? How long have you been playing? Do you play jazz?

Hello Sandy:
I'm so happy that you replied to my post. I play a flute and yes I study Jazz. I've been playing the flute over 5 years. My goal is to become a Flautist amongst flute players.

Hi John,
For starters, be patient. As you can deduce from skimming the book, there is much work to be done. In addition to practicing the material on your instrument it is important to play it on piano so you can hear the various vertical entities the LCC presents. You don’t necessarily need ‘chops’ on piano at all. Once you start learning the various scales on flute you could play chords on the piano and use the sustain pedal to ‘hold’ them. Have you ever used Band-In-a-Box software? With this software you can easily program any chord sequence you like or just vamp one chord. When you start to get more comfortable with the scales you could mute the chordal instruments and just practice with bass and drums.
The LCC book has many excellent exercises and tests to help you along. You are free to write pieces based on what you are learning. Have a happy journey!
