While attending a Harry Potter party Friday night I picked up an interesting new book called Lennie Tristano: His Life in Music by Eunmi Shim, published by University of Michigan Press. About a third of the book consists of an exploration of his teaching methods with recollections by many former students.
I’m not sure what interaction, if any, he had with George Russell. I know that Sheila Jordan studied with Lennie and performed/recorded with Mr. Russell.

And a final word: George was famous for his refusal to lower his standards in all areas of his life, no matter the cost. He twice refused concerts of his music at Lincoln Center Jazz because of their early position on what was authentically jazz. So save any speculation about the level of him as an artist and a man.
